Regina Silsby's Secret War by Thomas J. Brodeur

Summary: Regina Silsby’s been dead for years, but now she's back. Enter 16 year-old Rachel Winslow, the niece of eccentric, long-dead Regina Silsby, who has assumed her aunt's identity in an attempt to thwart the plans of the British militia occupying Boston. But just how long can Rachel keep up this masquerade before she’s discovered?

Violence/Disturbing Images: As the book is set in the Revolutionary War era, there is frequent mention of guns, battles, and soldiers. A few skirmishes, with men firing on each other, punches thrown, and later, a near hanging.

Sensuality/Nudity: Character speaks to Rachel's father to ask for her hand in marriage, though nothing comes from it; as payment for losing a dare, character teasingly asks Rachel for a kiss

Profanity: None. Mention of characters cursing but no language articulated.

Morality: Main character frequently prays, attends church, reads from the Bible, and acknowledges Christ as Lord. Very good moral tone.

Other: As the townspeople are convinced that Regina Silsby's ghost is running rampant in the streets, tales spread about how the former church organist may have been a witch or sorcerer. These rumors are, of course, not true.

An excellent historical fiction interlaced with mystery, good spiritual references, likable characters, and plenty of action.

Overall Recommendation: 12+

God bless!
