Thunder From the Sea by Joan Hiatt Harlow

Summary: There are only two things young, orphaned Tom has ever wanted in life: a family and a dog. So when his dreams finally seem to be coming true, he can hardly believe it! He finds himself adopted by a kind middle-aged couple, given a loyal Newfoundland dog, and brought to live in a home of his own. But then all at once, his new life begins to change. Tom begins to wonder if his dreams really have come true or are they about to be shattered all over again...

Violence/Disturbing Images: Minimal. Natural disasters such as an earthquake and tidal wave; a dog is shot; two young boys have a fistfight; little girl is lost on the cliffs.

Sensuality/Nudity: Minimal. Mention of a wife kissing her husband; woman is pregnant and has a baby, though the process is not described.

Profanity: Mild name-calling using the Newfoundland dialect. Words such as "chucklehead," "bullmarue," and "prate-box."

Morality: Characters pray and read the Bible.

Other: Mention made of the superstition that "magical charm words" can cure any illness. However, this superstition is viewed as mere nonsense.

An excellent read for a younger audience!

Overall Recommendation: Ages 8+

God bless!
