Summary: The Mysterious Benedict Society, a series of four novels detailing the adventures of Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance, four unusually gifted children, is something you won't want to miss out on! Under the guidance of Mr Benedict their friend and mentor, these kids use their remarkable skills to do things most consider impossible. Each must learn to rely on their fellow society members, as it is up to the four to foil the evil plans of Ledroptha Curtain, a genius scientist gone bad. Follow along as the Mysterious Benedict Society engages in an ongoing battle of wits -- a battle they can't afford to lose.
Violence/Disturbing Images: Minimal; The few fights portrayed in the books between the heroes and villains are mostly humorous. Kicks and punches are thrown, one character uses a tranquilizer gun... the villains do tote some dangerous weapons like laser pointers and shock watches, however they don't actually inflict major injuries on anyone.
Sensuality/Nudity: None.
Profanity: None.
Morality: High. Especially in the first book, the idea of not letting the truth be obscured by lies is obviously emphasized along with other positive virtues.
Other: The only thing that perhaps should be noted is the brief reference to a Zodiac sign in the first book. It's only used as a clue in a riddle, so not a big issue.
One of my absolute favorite series! PLENTY of good, clean humor, action/adventure, mystery, and a liberal sprinkling of riddles to engage your mind! There's also a depth to the stories, that you might not notice at first... I missed it my first time through. It was definitely worth it, in my opinion, rereading the series and discovering and pondering that theme for myself. A major plus for me was the bond between Reynie, Kate, Sticky, and Constance, as it was touching but realistic -- these kids aren't perfect after all! Each of the four books is rather thick, close to 400 pages, so this series should keep you busy for a long time!
Overall Recommendation: Ages 10+
