Summary: It’s been two years since Meg last saw her father, on the day he left to join the Allied forces. When she receives news that he has been captured and is being held in a German work camp, Meg feels she is willing to do anything to help her father make it back home. As it turns out, a lot more of her is required than she ever bargained for.
Violence/Disturbing Images: Moderate; As this is written during war times, mention is made of battles, people being shot and killed, and along Meg’s journey, she meets several operatives who do end up dying.
Sensuality/Nudity: Minimal; Mention of two men in the city who were said to have been in a relationship disappearing as a result of Hitler’s process of weeding out the unfit; characters pose as husband and wife.
Profanity: None; Mention of characters swearing but no language recorded
Morality: Again, during wartime many characters make the choice to resort to desperate measures, such as lying and stealing. Otherwise, values such as courage, loyalty, honor, and patriotism are upheld.
Another riveting read from Jennifer Nielsen!
Overall Recommendation: Ages 12+
