Summary: After having been on the run for over a year, 12- and 15-year-old Meg and Aiden Falconer are finally ready for their lives to return to normal. Only "normal" isn't at all what it used to be. But that's not even the worst of their troubles. Meg is suddenly kidnapped, right before her brother's very eyes, and the police are completely baffled. What was the motive? Ransom? Revenge? Or is it something else? Whatever it is, Aiden will stop at nothing, even taking the law into his own hands, to rescue his sister before it's too late.
Violence/Disturbing Images: Moderate; character is chloroformed and handled roughly by her kidnappers, at one time slapped in the face; character falls from a high place, hitting head and getting knocked unconscious; twice a character is struck over the head and knocked unconscious; villain is attacked by bear, though the injuries sustained are not described in detail; villain is buried in a rockslide;
Sensuality/Nudity: None.
Profanity: Minimal. Mention of character swearing, but no language recorded; one “To h**k with...”;
Morality: Low. In a desperate attempt to find his sister, Aiden is willing to do anything, ethical or not. Actions include stealing a bike, lying to people, and escaping local authorities.
A fast-paced action trilogy displaying the unbreakable bond of brother and sister as they race against time in a desperate attempt to be reunited. I have to say, that brother-sister bond was so touching and warm, it was one aspect of the book I absolutely loved. However, in my personal opinion I don't consider this to be one of Korman's best trilogies... the mood coming across in each book is almost depressing. I felt almost guilty to be laughing or smiling at the humorous tidbits in one sentence, for in the next I'd be reminded that after all she'd been through, poor Meg was again separated from her family and her parents were so distraught they couldn't think straight... Who can smile when you're supposed to be sympathizing with such saddened characters?! Kinda put a damper on my reading.
Overall Recommendation: 12+
God bless!
