City Spies: Golden Gate by James Ponti

Summary: The City Spies are back on another crime-fighting adventure! Their latest mission? Protecting two high-ranking members of Parliament during a ship hijacking and later flying to San Francisco to discover the identity of Magpie, a mole working from within M16. Simultaneously, Mother continues the search for Annie and Robert, his long-lost children whose whereabouts are unknown. But things are never quite as simple as they seem, and the kids soon find themselves running out of time. Can the City Spies solve the mission before their cover is blown? Or has the clock already stopped ticking?

Violence/Disturbing Images: Brooklynn uses a scissor kick on a villain, then later throws a poisonous, though not deadly, sea creature at him; dead body is found.

Sensuality/Nudity: None.

Profanity: One use of "Oh my G**" and "OMG"

Morality: As the characters are undercover agents, they lie about their identities and use cover names as can be expected in the line of duty. Aside from that, right and wrong are clearly differentiated between.

An absolute treasure of a book. Ponti deftly combined action, adventure, history, and mystery in this second installment of the City Spies, keeping me guessing right up to the end of the novel! There were no objectionable elements in my opinion, and I would feel very comfortable letting a younger reader page through this novel. The characters were also very well-rounded, having flaws as well as virtues. The ending was absolutely perfect, and will leave you wondering if the author plans to continue the series! I sincerely hope a third City Spies book is in the making!

Overall Recommendation: 10+

God bless!
